These guys are never out of their depth!

Who do you call when thousands of tons of gnarled metal over 100 feet deep in the water are threatening to wreak environmental havoc if not removed immediately? For the people of Louisiana the answer is The Bisso family, as for more than a century they have been assembling a long history of expertise in the incredibly dangerous and highly technical duty of sea salvage and excavation.

At Bisso Marine, death and dismemberment are part of the job – and as a family business, those treacherous stakes are even higher. For each mission, Beaux Bisso and family assemble a team of engineers, divers and renegades to solve a seemingly impossible salvage problem. Hauling up a hunk of collapsed bridge from a river; raising a rust-bucket cargo ship from its watery grave; blasting through the seabed to dislodge gas lines – the Bissos and crew don’t just use technology to accomplish their jobs, they often invent it as they go, pulling off a few deep-sea engineering firsts in the process. Watch as extensive CGI details their game-plans, providing a context for these unbelievable underwater missions.

The Bisso team must raise a sunken oil rig’s support structure from the ocean muck before it sweeps the legs out from underneath another fully operational rig. The unstable wreck is heartbeats away from causing a major calamity. With a hurricane approaching, the undercurrents make rigging difficult and too slow. The steel is too thick to cut through so they are forced to blow it up. When the hurricane becomes too close for comfort, they have no choice but to pull out and come back to finish the lift. While two divers argue over how to flip a shackle, Lunchbox loses a battle of his own—his weight. He is removed from the project.

Enjoyed the glimpse into the world of underwater jobs, that, as a rule, most people are not even aware transpire every day. It is a fact that a good majority of most vessels seen on our waterways have at one time or the other been sunk, salvaged, restored and put back to work! Liked the diverse action, going back and forth to capture different jobs. The characters were informative, professional and other times just down right funny! Only con? Needed to focus on more of the crew member’s personalities (such as Deadliest Catch) rather than just Lunchbox.Would like to see more of what this company does. Interesting that they have a 100 year history."

The Mississippi River is in crisis as a tanker collides with an oil barge. Joe V and the Bisso Marine salvage team must locate the source of the leak and pump the oil from the sunken wreck before a deadly explosion occurs. As a result of the oil spill traffic jam, a tug is grounded in a difficult lifting position–trapped behind a mooring dock. The tug could snap in half upon its lifting, but Pirtle has everything under control. Lunchbox is in an irritable mood and protests James’ approach relentlessly.

Joe V is summoned to the Gulf to take on a ticking time bomb: an oil rig lying directly on top of an underwater fuel pipeline. If it’s not towed away quickly, the pipeline could be punctured and destroyed.

One diver’s life hangs in the balance while he suffers from decompression sickness.

In Texas, a barge carrying sulphuric acid lies buried in a swamp. Lunchbox and Pirtle manage a team that works anxiously to lift this volatile wreck. The task at hand comes to a halt and sparks fly when Lunchbox recklessly gets his excavator stuck in the mud.

Lunchbox and Peter fight an uphill battle with a routine beached tugboat job that is nothing but bad luck from the start. Lunchbox takes a mean spill off the deck and into the water and his day gets worse when he pilots the crane barge into a main power line.

Meanwhile, Pirtle and Dave T must clear a sunken dry dock, used for maintenance on ocean-going ships, from the middle of a harbor. A huge operation is carried out to cut the dock in half and remove them from the water.

Sea salvage and excavation - it’s an incredibly dangerous and highly technical job with risks that include dismemberment and death.

See how the Bissos of Bisso Marine in Louisiana execute seemingly impossible undertakings with precision and expertise in a family business where their livelihoods — and their lives — are constantly at stake on DEEP SEA SALVAGE.

Dive 2,000 feet below Pacific waters to witness one of the most difficult and important salvage operations in maritime history.

  • Watch as the ship is raised from 2,000 feet below the surface.
  • The complete story of the Ehime Maru disaster.
  • Includes an interview with Rear Admiral William Klemm, who oversaw the project.

On February 9, 2001, the commander of the nuclear submarine USS Greeneville ordered a spontaneous surfacing drill to impress a group of on-board civilians. But when the 7,000-ton vessel broke the surface, it collided with the Ehime Maru, a Japanese fishing trawler carrying high school students on a research trip. The Maru sank quickly, taking nine people with it.

DEATH IN THE PACIFIC traces the aftermath of this tragedy, focusing on the massive effort to recover the bodies of the victims. Host John Chatterton travels to Hawaii to see how the Navy pulled off one of the greatest salvage operations in history. With never-before-seen footage and interviews with high-ranking officials involved in the mission, DEEP SEA DETECTIVES offers a riveting look at how the Maru was recovered the sea floor, 2,000 feet down.
